Chances are you didn’t get this far on DJ Quik’s last album.  It’s a shame because there are probably only 5 other producers on earth whose production is as sonically cohesive and as tight and ridiculously dope as DJ Quik’s.  He’s not as widely celebrated and appreciated as he should be and it’s probably due to a wide range of factors some ridiculous others I find to be (grudgingly) reasonable. But I was fortunate enough to hear him DJ live last summer.  He played a crazy set and then started playing some of his unreleased instrumentals.  I don’t dance, but that shit made me catch the holy ghost and even I had to get my boogie on.
